Fennimore Citywide Garage Sales May 19-20-21

Make plans to find your treasures during Fennimore’s Annual City Wide Sales sponsored by the Fennimore Area Chamber of Commerce and QueenB Radio. Suggested sale times include Thursday, May 19 from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday May 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday May 21 from 7 a.m. to noon. The official garage sale registration deadline is Tuesday May 10. Fill out your registration form and return to the City Clerk’s office (860 Lincoln Avenue) at which time you may pick up the yard sign at the Fennimore Utility office. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Return the yard sign by May 31 and the $3 yard sign deposit will be returned. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be listed on the official map.

This year’s official garage sale map sponsor is Kwik Trip. Maps will be available at Fennimore convenience stores, banks and the City Clerk’s office starting May 16. Several Fennimore businesses will also be offering onsite sales both inside and outside of their business. A list of garage sale locations and type of sale items they will offer will be available on the Chamber Garage Sale website page and in the Fennimore Times/Reminder.

Members of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church will hold their “Rows of Clothes” free clothes give away at the Church, 1425 10th Street. Hours for the “Rows of Clothes” are Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. They will offer clothing for men, women and children including shoes and accessories. That’s right, items are free. This is an outreach activity for the church.

Tourism Week – May 1-7 2016 Happy National Travel & Tourism Week!

WI Dept of Tourism Secretary, Stephanie Klett, is thrilled to announce that Wisconsin’s tourism industry had another outstanding year of growth. The tourism economy was up $800 million, a 4.4% increase. This brings the state of Wisconsin’s tourism industry to $19.3 billion!

  • Tourism plays a vital role in Grant County total business sales in 2015 was $43.2 million in 2015, an increase of 1.74%.
  • Grant County supports 887 jobs with a total personal income of $21.1 million which are supported by visitors to Grant County.
  • Tax revenue visitors to Grant County generated came in at $5.3 million in state and local taxes during 2015.
  • The tourism economy generated $1.5 billion in state and local revenue saving Wisconsin taxpayers $640 per household.

Fennimore Golf Outings

Save the date and plan to participate in the following golf outings planned at Hickory Grove Golf Course.

  • May 21, Saturday – Fennimore Community Scholarship Foundation Golf – 9 a.m.
  • June 13, Monday – Fennimore Area Chamber of Commerce Golf – 3 p.m.

Sponsor a Flag on Lincoln Avenue

American Flags on Lincoln Avenue welcome everyone who passes through Fennimore’s main street. The public is encouraged to make a $26 donation per flag in honor, memory or recognition of someone. The list of sponsors will be recognized in the Fennimore Times in June and will also be posted at the Fennimore Memorial Building and the Dwight Parker Public Library.

This is a great way to honor a loved one or to say “thanks” to those who served our country. Checks can be made payable to “City of Fennimore” and mailed or dropped off at the City Office. We thank you in advance for your support!

Lincoln Avenue Planters

Time is quickly approaching to fill the planters on Lincoln Avenue. Planting will take place the afternoon of May 16. Please meet at the Fennimore Memorial building (old fire department area) by 3 p.m. If you would like to help with planting please contact the Promotions Coordinator’s office 608-822-3599. Many hands could make quick work of this project and will certainly brighten up Lincoln Avenue for citywide visitors and Memorial Day travelers.

Fennimore Legion Spaghetti Supper

The Annual Legion Spaghetti Supper fundraiser will be sponsored by Fennimore Legion members on Thursday, May 12 at the Legion Hall. Serving from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is just $7. Come out and support Legion members in this annual fundraiser.

Annual Steak Sandwich Lunch

The Grant County Cattlemen will be serving steak sandwich lunches at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society on Thurs. May 19 serving is held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Eat in or carry out – call ahead 608-822-6100. Choose a sandwich only for $8 or meal for $10 (includes sandwich, chips, cookie and drink). All proceeds benefit the new chapel planned for the Good Samaritan Center.

Fennimore Community Blood Drive

The American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the Fennimore Memorial building on Thursday, May 19 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Bring a friend and help save lives together. For an appointment call 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.

Fennimore Memorial Day Program

The community is invited to take part in the Annual Legion Memorial Day parade and program Monday, May 30. The parade begins at 9 a.m. at the junction of Lincoln Avenue and 11th Street. The parade marches up Lincoln Avenue to the Memorial building where a program will be held. Check the calendar for additional information as it becomes available.

Fun Fest June 3 & 4

Fennimore’s largest festival Fun Fest is less than a month away. Committee members have once again done a great job of lining up activities for all ages. Some activities will be a bit different this year. Inflatables will replace the carnival this year; wrist band sales will be available during Fun Fest; advance wristbands will not be offered. Follow Fun Fest on Facebook for up-to-date information.

Fun Run / Walk

The run/walk theme will be Super Hero Run/Walk. The event will be held Friday, June 3 with registration starting at 6 p.m. The event will take place on LaFollette Street near the ball diamond area. Participants are encouraged to wear your best superhero costume, although it is not a requirement. A prize is offered for the best costume. The run kicks off at 7 p.m. with an interactive kids race, with the family fun run to follow. A live band will follow the 5k. Preregister by May 9 to guarantee a t-shirt. Special prices for family registration. Register in person at Fennimore Suppz Gym or online.

Little Ms and Mr Fun Fest Contest

The Little Ms and Mr Fun Fest is back. Contestants must have just finished 5-year-old Kindergarten through 3rd grade. All contestants must be students of Fennimore Elementary, or home schooled with a Fennimore address. All contestants must be available Saturday for the public contest as well as Saturday evening for the parade (line-up begins at 5:30 p.m). All entries must be postmarked no later than May 23, 2016; entry is on a first come basis – limited to 15 males and 15 females. Entries should include a photo of the child along with their drawing of what a Small-Town Hero is to them. More details and contest entry form are on the Fun Fest page.

Disc Golf Tournament

Gabe Fry is coordinating the 2nd Annual Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 4 at Oakwood Nature Park Disc Golf Course in Fennimore. Sign in begins at hole one at 9 a.m. Two rounds and two divisions will take place. $20 early online registration or $25 on June 4. A player’s meeting will be held at 9:45 a.m. with first round beginning at 10:15. Player divisions include 2 Disc players pack, Dew Fly Towel, Tie-Dye Mini; top 3 cash prize. Recreation division 3 disc players pack, Dew Fly Towel, Tie-Dye Mini and 2 drink tickets; top three trophies. Fun for all ages  For more information, follow Fennimore Disc Golf on Facebook.

Car Show

Red Kreyer will once again coordinate the Fun Fest Car Show and Cruise. The car show will be held near the ball diamonds between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sixty-four trophies in all 3 places per class. Contact Red Kreyer 608-379-1138 for more details.

Summer Recreation Books Available

Fennimore’s Summer Recreation Program will soon begin. Recreation books are now available at the City Clerk’s office and Fennimore schools or online.

The Fennimore Pool will open for the season on Tuesday, May 31. Pool passes may be purchased at the City Clerk’s office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The Fennimore pool will operate the same as usual throughout the summer. Plans are to begin upgrades to the pool immediately once the pool season is over.

Fennimore Museums Open for the Season May 28

The Fennimore Doll and Toy Museum and Fennimore Historical Railroad Museum will open for their 2016 seasons beginning Saturday, May 28. Both Museums will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
